Digging Merlin Mann's Inbox Zero!!!

I am REALLY digging Merlin Mann's "Inbox Zero" philosophy. There is a great presentation video he did at GoogleHQ that best sums it up!
I've been at it for 4 days and am quite pleased with how it's going.
It's made me think twice before i check my email because I know I am
commited to acting on each one of them in a purposeful way.

The
other upside is when I'm done checking my email, I feel good that I
have almost no follow ups, or if I do, I have placed my To Do's into
some other tool - not left them lingering in my inbox.

I am feeling the urge to write some sort of psy-trance dance music tribute to Merlin Mann in the vein of Astrix. Instead I'll probably go get a cup of coffee.

Where yo curleh mustache at?!?

We <3 Jon Cates!

Jon Cates just put a video clip of the I Love Presets site up on Vimeo.

Survival Drama in a Soviet Bunker - the themepark

Tourists pay 120 LTL ($US 220) each to step back into 1984 as a
temporary USSR citizen for 2.5 hours.
On entry, all belongings,
including money, cameras and phones, are handed over and under the
watchful eye of guards and alsatians, tourists change into threadbare Soviet coats and are herded through the bunker.

Togo bottle opener - simplicity defined

Everybody who might look at this blog probably already looks at Make and Afrigadget (where this originally appeared),  but the Togo Bottle Opener is worth a re-look and even a re-re-look. Makes you wonder why the $23 opener even exists.

"For Promotional Use Only" = meaningless

I had no idea "For Promotional Use Only" I used to see stamped on CDs and records is, actually, unenforceable.

Dear MIA/Blaqstarr, you're biting ILP's style. and we approve.

Good to see MIA/Blaqstarr biting I Love Presets video stylee. ragga.

Links to the pubdom Beard Family books. Yet another reason to love MeFi

I <3 MetaFilter.

In the late 19th- and early 20th-century, the Beard family—Daniel
Carter, Lina, and Adelia Belle—wrote a number of books on outdoor
activities, woodcraft, and other recreational activities for boys and
girls. Many of these books are in the public domain now:
(The American Boy's Handy Book,
The Field and Forest Handy Book,
The Outdoor Handy Book,
The Jack of All Trades,
The American Girl's Handy Book,
On the Trail: An Outdoor Book for Girls).

I Love Presets at the Chicago Underground Film Fest!

My improvised audio/video trio I Love Presets just played the Chicago Underground Film Fest! It was great to play the fest!!!!! We were quite happy with our set. Jon just posted a short clip of our performance on the youtubes.

Check it out.

For me, it was particularly awesome to play the fest. The film fest has been a source of inspiration for me for a long time. So much great weird stuff and great to see/meet the people who make it.

Some stuff that blew me away.

The restored Curtis Harrington shorts. Really really great. Each movie is like a Joy Division song.

Jim Finn's The Juche Idea - Totally demented and great to see the result of so many of my Troy, NY posse's hard work!

Jennifer Reeder's Accidents at Home and How They Happen. A totally beautiful movie.

Alexander Stewart and Peter Miller's On the Logic of Dubious Historical Accounts, 1969 - 1972

and on and on and on. It also made me realize how much I love shorts.
