Mike Vallely's DRIVE

Pretty cool outtakes from a Mike Vallely documentary series called DRIVE. Seems like he's become a pretty cool guy. I was always so afraid of him in high school.

North Skirt.

I'd wear it.

Totally rad backyard bike path.

pretty hypnotic video too...

"a 4 acre lot and there is over a mile of skinnies with a 15 foot high bridge to tree branch drop and some good jumps too."

Lost Nikon Camera found 1,100 miles away!

whoa.

"...among the things found on the memory card was a video recorded by a sea turtle that dragged the camera for a period of time during the journey."

A pretty cool overview of the Jacob's Ladder Vibro-Man effect.

a cool little overview of the the weird effect from Jacob's Ladder.

“We built this vibrating guy, had a counter-weight on a flexi-shaft, put it on the inside of a rubber head and put it on a dummy’s body. The head went b-brrah-b-brrah-b-brrah (vibrated like a paint mixer). That was entirely Gord’s idea. We went out on a limb on it, we built it and they brought us down to New York for a camera test, and we presented it and they liked it. “

Dale Peterson. The Candidate for Alabama Agriculture Commission that just might shoot you.

Things Dale Peterson will do if elected Alabama Agriculture Commissioner: 1) Edit with lots of jump cuts. 2) Accidentally shoot people with his insanely poor trigger discipline. 3) Continue to wear what look to be Old Navy maternity jeans.

Reeling - a new video installation

"Reeling" is a looping video installation and the first of my "Weird Feelings" videos.

Anticipation is its own special euphoria. Pre-excitement for the actual excitement. It can be the best part of road trips, first dates, holidays and birthdays.

"Reeling" was created by cutting up an instructional bass fishing VHS tape into the classic fishing actions (casting, reeling, catching and release) then re-assembling some of the most exciting moments.

A new interview with Mika Vainio from Pan Sonic in Technoccult. I'm so bummed they are breaking up, but after a 15 year run I can they are due some down/solo time. They have a new record, Gravitoni, coming out this month!

Trailer for new Godard film, Socialisme, is the entire film!

Jen-Luc Godard trailer for his new film, Socialisme, is the entirety of his new film compressed into a hyper-spaced 1 minute and 7 seconds. Ha! Genius! More... and more! over at Candlelight Stories.

Great essay teasing apart the orthodoxy/speech drama.

Just read Jeremy F. Walton's really great "Who's Afraid of the Free Speech Fundamentalists?: Reflections on the South Park Cartoon Controversy essay in The Revealer. It does a nice job complicating the arguments made by the extreme ends of the issue. Check it out.

"Almost immediately, the complex theological and political issues at hand were reduced to a regrettable polarization of two mutually-exclusive fundamentalisms: stringent religious orthodoxy and free speech. My modest aspiration in this reflection is to attempt to think beyond the either-or of rigid orthodoxy and free speech—an admittedly difficult task in a political context that privileges the comfortable satisfactions of easy dichotomies."

Paolo Pedercini's 21st Century Home. This home, like the housing market, collapsed late that evening... with me inside it.
